A beautiful emakimono, size 40x 290 cm, depicting sumo wrestlers and officials. 2 generation of Tosa painters meet at almost 400 years distance
土佐光貞 Tosa Mitsusada (1738-1806)
Painter of the Tosa School in the mid-to late-Edo period. The second son of Tosa Mitsuyoshi, he became an Eodkoro azukari in 1754. Edokoro Azukari is the head painter who belongs to the painting office of the Imperial Court or the Edo Shogunate. He was involved in the production of the paintings on the walls of Seiryoden.
The scroll is dated Kansei 12 - 1800, after Tosa Mitsuhiro (土佐光廣) 1430-1445 (active)
. There are a few worm marks (5) but nothing serious.
