Hisui Sugiura (杉浦 非水, Sugiura Hisui, May 15, 1876 - August 18, 1965) was a Japanese graphic designer who was a pioneer of modern Japanese graphic design. One of Japan’s most gifted graphic designers, was heavily influenced by Art Nouveau and Art Deco. His wonderful works have left long-lasting marks on the evolution of modern design from the prewar era through today. He, in his own way, realized the philosophy of American pop culture known by such artists as Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein.
